Corsican Immortelle​

This rare and extremely valuable Corsican Immortelle (Helichrysum italicum) essential oil is sourced directly from Corsican family of harvesters and made from plants wild harvested in hight altitude of Corsica island.

This essential oil is steam distilled buds only and not the stems! It takes 1200kg of buds to make 1kg of Helichrysum essential oil.

The name Helichrysum is derived from the Greek helios meaning sun and chrysos meaning gold, referring to the color of many of the flowers of species in this genus. As it is better known to many of its ardent followers, Everlasting or Immortelle is known as one of the best natural remedies for the skin that decreases inflammation and regenerates cells.

Helichrysum has been used since ancient times in Greece as an herbal medicine, and is still prized in traditional medicine in the Mediterranean, Africa, and other areas of the world. But Helichrysum italicum ssp italicum from Corsica must not be confused with its cousins from Italy or the Balkans, which are not the same. It have been attributed to a number of factors unique to the island. 

Already in antic cultures and traditions these botanical plant benefits were well known and used. Plants with health and beauty benefits in nowadays territory of Corsica have been mentioned already in the books of the ancient Greek father (or founder) of botany, Theophrastus of Eresos (371–286 B.C.E.) Θεόφραστος ο Ερέσιος. However Helichrysum gained global fame only in the late ’90s for its profound healing effect on ageing, wrinkled and wounded skin. Since then Helichrysum oil has received innumerable testimonials for its unsurpassed healing power.

Helichrysum italicum is used widely in the cosmetic industry due to its high level of nerol, neryl acetate, linalool and limonene, which are widely reported to enhance the skin’s ability to regenerate itself. This oil is cosmetically as well as therapeutically unchallenged in its ability to support cell regeneration and tissue healing. It is reported as a very potent, extremely safe and very effective. It’s well known anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties in helping to manage acne & oily skin and aiding skin regeneration from burns, cuts and post-acne scars. Helichrysum italicum grown on the island of Corsica has the highest levels of this compound, which gives it a unique quality, due to:

Ketones

Helichrysum italicum is the only essential oil known to contain di-ketones. While typically ketones found in essential oils are of a harmful nature (they often cause unchecked cell proliferation, i.e. tumors), the dichotic nature of these molecules provide helichrysum with much of its powerful regenerative effects, stimulating new, healthy cells. Because the di-ketones are only found in Helichrysum italicum, specifically varieties found on the island of Corsica, they are also referred to as italidones. Italidones are recognized for their incredible ability to regenerate tissue and promote cell turnover, leading to increased healing.

The italidiones are also attributed in aromatherapy to providing the oil with its spiritual healing benefits, healing old emotional wounds, and are adept at removing old emotional blocks.

Sesquiterpenes

Alpha, beta, and gamma-curcumenes.

The curcumenes, particularly Υ-curcumene, are well known for their anti-inflammatory effects, which in turn translates into the notorious pain-relieving effects produced by helichrysum. It appears to be the curcumenes that provide the turmeric, or curry-like, fragrance as well as much of the tissue healing benefits. Turmeric is well known for its anti-inflammatory properties, and it is this same component that likely lends the same characteristics in helichrysum.

Many scientific studies have been conducted on the healing effects of Helichrysum in vitro and there is increasing scientific evidence in vivo. Meanwhile, as indicated in thousands of years old traditions, this long-revered essential oil has been used for its anti bacterial, anti fungal, anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties. It has been used and is used as a powerful antioxidant even at low concentrations, but quite possibly its greatest power is its ability to heal the skin and restore it to a more youthful appearance. 

It has been shown effective in treating various skin conditions including acne, dry skin, eczema, rosacea, dermatitis, psoriasis and burns (including sunburn). This is partially due to helichrysum’s ability to act as an astringent.
